Working to bring lows up a bit, reduce highs

Kumbi ran quite low in his glucose in the afternoon - making it difficult to protect him from possible hypoglycemia. I reduced his insulin dose by a fair bit in an effort to raise the afternoon lows some. If there was some rebounding going on, doing this should also, gradually, reduce the highs, both morning and evening.

It looks as though we have a start on possible success, doing this.

It takes at least several days for such a tactic to take full effect; a week at least, before we can be fairly certain we have the right approach.

The chart here suggests we're making headway.

Morning and evening highs appear reversed

Kumbi's high this morning (17 May 2010) was quite sharp after he ate. I didn't take a reading before he ate, as I'm running short of test strips - but will remedy that tomorrow.

Which merely means, I'll buy more test strips! (You see, I must always pay attention to the meanings of what I'm saying!)

We DID bring the afternoon lows up a bit, which is a relief, because it's important to get in a walk in the afternoon, as well as in the morning; that helps keep Kumbi comfortable, and helps control his glucose levels, as long as we don't overdo things.

Compare the readings from yesterday (16 May 2010), where the morning high was somewhat less - but the evening soaring was still very much present! - with today's very high reading in the morning after eating - but his high after eating in the evening was considerably reduced. How lovely if we can bring that evening soaring under control!

Updates will follow. Of course!
